The Coach shares some advice on a mid-life crisis
The problem
Coach, I’ve lost the lot. Everything. A year ago I had a nice house, two cars, a boat, a high-paying job, a holiday house and stock portfolio. It’s all gone thanks to the economy going pearshaped. My wife, baby girl and I are
living at my mum and dad’s house. I feel so ashamed and depressed.
SOL UTION:
Jesus Christ, man. Give yourself an uppercut. You’ve got the love and support of your family, your health and it sounds like you’ve got your parents. Crikey, that’s more than many a man, and the only things that are really important in life. The rest is garnish, useless crap you collect. Stop dwelling on its loss. So, your wealth’s gone. Boo, freakin’ hoo. Get it back again. Get a job at Bunnings….

Hi Dave
Your situation sounds very tough. The coach has made some good points about focusing on the positive.
Many men, women and families have been affected by the GFC. You are not alone in Australia or across the world.
Based on your story it sounds like you have many strengths. Well done on keeping your family together and gaining the support of your mother and father. Support and love is a two way street.
I imagine that if you had generated so many assets and had a high paying job you have many strengths in the form of your work experience, education, skills, attributes and qualities. Are these internal strengths and resources still available? I would say so.
I believe that any individual can draw on the internal and external resources available to them at that point in time.
Focus on what you have and avoid thinking about what you don’t have.
Try to focus on what’s possible and what you can achieve. What you have learned about the situation.
Have you tried sitting down and listing what internal and external resources you have. Write it down and you may be amazed what resources you have available to you.
A few external resources I have found to be useful include the below. I picked up some useful skills that have helped out at times.
A good guy I met a few years ago called Gary de Rodriguez http://www.garyderodriguez.com/ coined a term that I like and it is ” being able to worship at the temple of what’s possible more than worship at the temple or your story ”
Anthony Robbins has developed some great tools for professional and personal development. Just cherry pick what suits you. His website is here http://www.tonyrobbins.com/ Giant Steps might be an audio CD that is of help
This audio CD and other great resources can easily be downloaded from http://www.audible.com or other audio download websites.
