Fast Solutions For Bored Kids & Fed Up Dads / DadsClub.com.au
There’s a skill with keeping kids active and it’s called FUN. Active kids are healthy kids. Adults confuse exercise with unpleasantness and this can adversely transcend onto our kids. Call it activities, physical play or whatever, but make sure you lead them into a habit of regular activities.
- Swimming is Australia’s’ number sport. So rain, hail or shine grab a pair of togs and head to the beach, river, water slide or outdoor pool in summer and head to your local aquatic centre in winter.
- Build something: Tree house, cubby house, paper plane, dog house, cardboard robots, drawings , paintings, build a veggie garden (pot or plot), create a cardboard, wooden or real rocket or raft. Get creative.
- Running. We’re not talking marathons here, but chasings, British bull dog or even hide and seek will get ‘em moving fast.
- Trampolining. A great form of exercise, especially if you have one at home. Haven’t got one yet? Buy one for the kids, you could use it as well. Not an option? Find some friends with a trampoline or head to your nearest Leisure Centre.
- Bike riding. Because this is an excellent low-impact cardiovascular exercise, all kids should have a bike. Get the kids inspired with this cool clip.
- Team sports. Touch footy, hand-ball, kicking a footy, backyard cricket and volley-ball are all fun activities that raise your kids’ metabolism to burn off fat.
- Rock climbing. We’re not talking Patagonia here. Indoor rock climbing is fun, safe and easily accessible.

Try making pasta with them – can take a bit of time out of the day – (and you can extend the day with a cleanup of their mess after

1. clean the bench down well (use the bench.. mess but more fun)
2. make a mound (one in front of each kid) of 1 cup of “00″ flour (find it in the flour isle)
3. make a well in the top and get kids to crack 2 eggs (see who can crack them with 1 hand “like a chef” for added goodness.. the shell is eatable if you miss some)
4. give each a fork and get them to mix..
(get ready for the egg to run out – I usually keep a “barbymate” close at hand too
once its doughy.. start kneeding (grab the outside edge and fold towards you) for about 5 mins.
5. remeber that you should have used an apron (”kiss the cook” optional)
6. cleanup bench and spread flour on bench and roll dough out (rolling pin/glass/cup/dowel offcut) as thin as you can – dust with flour to stop sticking.
7. cut with a sharp knife into strips to make fetticini.
8. throw in boiling hot water for a few mins (takes much less than dried pasta).
Drain and add to sauce.. dinner!
20-30 mins+eating time! Nice.

Go to bunnings/et.al and buy 1 meter square of fake grass (~$12-30) – and build a par-50 golf course in your back/frontyard.

Make sure you use whiffleballs(practice balls) of course.. (about $5 from kmart)
My 4YO will spend the whole afternoon playing this… use the fake grass so you don’t chew up your whole backyard
Use a hoolahoop as the target… to avoid the frustration if yours (like mine) lack accuracy
Swimming pool for Waterhazard and sand pit as the sand trap.
Dont have clubs? Go to the OpShop – usually pick up a whole bag of them for $10! (remember – there are left and right hand versions.. made that mistake once!) Kids clubs might need to be cut down using a hacksaw, then wind on some sparky-tape for cheap, faux-grips.
enjoy.
