So Peter Costello gets an Oz Day gong, yet confesses he never made it to any of his kids school gigs. If you assume he did a great job as Treasurer, lucky us Aussies, pity  him and his kids.

Recently a range of pollies have given the royal finger to Government life and embraced their families.

Lindsay Tanner who, in June 2010 left his National finance and deregulation portfolio telling Parliament…”frankly there are 2 little girls and 2 older kids who need me more than the country does.”

Steve Bracks quit as Victorian Premier, announcing when he resigned that he felt like a failed parent when his 19 year old boy got charged drink driving.  He said he would do everything he could to “be a good father.”

Last weekend, David Bartlett resigned as Tasmanian Premier, saying he wanted to see more of his children.

John Watkins saw the light in 2008 when he fled NSW as deputy premier.  About attending his son’s soccer matches, he said…” Sure it’s just a game of soccer, but there is such joy in that whicj I would otherwise have missed.”

Well done fellas, wouldn’t have voted for you then but you sure get our vote now!
