Throw Your Name in the HatWe’ve taken the pain out of choosing the right baby name by  serving  up an easy  search for the most popular baby names, their meanings  &  origins plus loads more.

Top tips  when choosing popular baby names:

  • Does it sound good? Would you want to have a beer with an Adolph? My daughter has a Prada, second rower, in her rugby team.
  • How could it be shortened?
  • E.g. Madison will be Mad, and Fatima would be Fat
  • What nicknames could be derived? Adolph may have some limitations
  • What do the initials spell? e. g. Francis Ursula Cook = FUC?
  • Family traditions: To keep everyone happy introduce a 3rd and even 4th name after the Christian name to keep it in the family e.g. My Daughter is Ella, then Blaire (maternal grandmother) Lilly (paternal grandmother), surname
  • Has it been overused? Apparently Diana (as in Princess) got a hiding.
